Five inches of rain a year. The mold still found your drywall.

In Henderson, mold does not come from the weather. It comes from a pipe, an appliance, a condensate line, or a tile roof that let one monsoon storm through. The growth on the wall is the part you can see; the wet material behind it is the part that matters. Call us now and tell us what you see.

Mold behind the baseboard is a plumbing problem wearing a paint problem

You scraped the bubbling paint at the bottom of the hall wall, primed it, and painted it. Three weeks later the bubbles are back and the baseboard is soft. In a Henderson slab house that usually means a water heater, a softener line, or a slab leak has been feeding that wall for months.

A local provider starts with a moisture meter, not a scraper. They read every wall in the room and the ones behind it, and mark where the wet stops. That mark decides how much drywall comes out, and on a slab there is no basement to tell you where the water went, so finding the source is part of the job.

Nevada does not issue a separate mold license, so the company you call represents its own training. The repair side of the job, cutting and replacing drywall, is contractor work under the Nevada State Contractors Board. Calling this number puts you through to a provider who does the removal and can tell you where the rebuild begins.

Talk to someone now about the mold in your Henderson home

Describe the leak that started it and where the growth is showing. The call goes to an independent local provider who handles mold removal and remediation across Henderson, Boulder City, and the southeast Las Vegas Valley.

  • Say which one let the water in: a water heater, a fridge or dishwasher line, a slab leak, the AC condensate line, or the roof during a monsoon storm.
  • Tell them whether the house sat empty for the summer with the thermostat turned up.
  • Mention where the musty smell is strongest and whether it changes when the air handler or swamp cooler runs.
  • Say whether the growth is on drywall, a cabinet floor, tile grout, the garage wall, or roof sheathing in the attic.
  • Tell them if a plumber or roofer has already fixed the leak, and when.
  • Mention anyone in the home with asthma or breathing trouble so the crew plans containment around them.
  • Have the property address and a number where you can be reached.

What the crew does in a Henderson slab house, and what you get out of it

What happens What it means for you
Plastic sheeting across the doorway, supply and return grilles taped shut Dust from the wet drywall stays in that room instead of riding the air handler into the bedrooms
A HEPA air scrubber exhausts the work zone to the outside The room sits under negative pressure, so spores pull inward rather than drifting down the hall
Drywall and baseboard cut to the moisture reading, not the stain Only the wet two feet come out when only the wet two feet are the problem
Studs, bottom plate, and slab edge HEPA vacuumed and wiped down The framing that stays is cleaned rather than boxed in wet and forgotten
Air movers and a dehumidifier run until the slab and framing read dry New drywall waits for a dry wall, not a calendar
The line between removal and rebuild written out before demolition You know which company is putting the wall back and what it will take

Before you paint over the spot again

A patch smaller than a dinner plate on tile, grout, or a painted garage wall is a rag-and-detergent job. A patch on drywall, a cabinet floor, or a closet ceiling is not; bleach wets the paper face and leaves the growth in the gypsum behind it. Close the door, leave the air conditioning on, take photos, and look for what got that spot wet: the water heater pan, the fridge line, the dishwasher, or the bathroom on the other side of the wall.

Why a desert house grows mold in August

Henderson averages under six inches of rain a year at about 1,870 feet, and nearly every house from Green Valley to Inspirada is stucco on a slab under concrete tile. The problems are a garage water heater in its twelfth year, a copper line under the slab, a condensate line that clogs in July when the air handler runs most of the day, and tile underlayment that has baked for twenty summers before a monsoon cell drops an inch of rain in an hour.

On July 28, 2022, southeast Henderson gauges recorded more than an inch of rain in a day, the most in the valley, and that August closed the wettest monsoon in a decade. Water that comes through a roof in a storm like that lands on dry insulation and drywall, and in a sealed, cooled house it does not dry back out on its own.

The Clark County Regional Flood Control District has built detention basins and channels along the Pittman Wash and Duck Creek since the 1980s, so most Henderson homes stay out of the wash. The water that gets into your wall comes from inside the house or from above it.

Will my insurance pay for mold from a leak?

We do not know what your policy pays, and we make no promise about it. Most Nevada homeowner policies pay for a sudden leak, exclude a slow one, and cap mold at a set dollar amount unless you bought an endorsement. The provider photographs the growth, logs the moisture reading on each wall, and gives you a written scope. Your adjuster decides from that record. If water is still running, shut the main and call before the adjuster comes.
